Abreu, Brian

Both days reception were conducted using a Yaesu FT-991 in 9kHz wide
AM. The antenna is an inverted L. The vertical portion at
approximately 25 feet up and the horizontal portion slopes down about
10 feet to the north.

I do not have audio from the 25th. The audio from the 29th is recorded
via the internal sound card of the 991 with VLC recording to 256 kbps
mp3. The full audio file begins approximately 3.5 minutes after the
transmission. Moments of audio attenuation are me applying filters to
clean up noise (well, attempts anyways).

Summary: Bad on the 25th. Very audible on the 29th. The 29th was very
early in the morning, which likely helped. This was a lot of fun to
chase.

Note

Could make out groups of typically 2 to 3 letters. Each group would
fade away for about 20 seconds. I could hear the low frequency of
speech for a lot of the transmission but could not make out the
letters/numbers. I heard more phonetic letters than numbers.

Note

01:16:00 - 01:26:00 UTC: 6.90 MHz
This was the best response of all transmissions. I could clearly hear
speech in the background. Unfortunately there was a very powerful
conversation in the foreground. There were also a few digital bursts
which sounded like ALE modems. Towards the end I was able to decode
some SSTV sounds, which were recognized as Scottie 1. No readable
image.

Note

Still high noise but could definitely hear what sounded like distant
wolf howling. Really neat. Digital filter was slightly more effective
here for portions. This was my favorite to hear. I cut a portion of
the audio that was best (using the FT-991 filters)

Note

Not bad on this. Would not be a credible SSTV contact based on image
output but still decoded as Scottie 1. Images attached

Had radio at 3.15. Switched to 2.75 towards end and picked up audio.
Can hear the lower notes of a female voice in the background. Some
fading in towards the last counts of 90 were very readable.

Same as above. Fading in and out with low notes of female voice. I
could pick up some portions. Oscar and Echo being the easiest to
always here.
