Reception for the fourth program was attempted using VA6DX (Alberta, Canada) and AI6VN (Maui, Hawaii) where the program was heard strongly (S9+10 and S9 respectively). Two slots were reserved at each KiwiSDR receiver, allowing the frequency changes to be followed. The audio from the reception made from VA6DX is plotted in the spectrograms below:
This reception proved quite clear from the beginning, with the voice prelude finally received clearly. The variation from 3150kHz to 3350kHz resulted in some loss of audio as I had changed to 3150kHz in preparation for carrier to come up, only changing back after a minute. Reception of 5100kHz and 6900kHz proved quite challenging for VA6DX due to the proximity, with better results from AI6VN on those frequencies. Conversely, transmissions at lower frequencies received via AI6VN exhibited doppler spreading resulting in blurry images. The locally higher noise floor at AI6VN also contributes to the noisier
images.
