The 0200-0300UTC transmission on 27th March 2019 of Ghosts in the Air Glow was well received among the eight publicly available KiwiSDRs I chose to monitor the transmission. I received the program interactively during my lunch break via VA6DX (Alberta, Canada), noting good signals also at the neighbouring VA6OK, VE6HFD and VE6SLP KiwiSDRs although suffered network connectivity problems with them resulting in partial program reception.

The above spectrogram illustrates my real-time attended reception via VA6DX of the program, including my "fumbling around" between frequency changes (and choosing the wrong one at times). Due to network connectivity problems with the SDR towards the end, the audio was noticeably broken and stuttering.

Carrier was observed to go down between segments, which prompted some nervousness as I did not know if it were to return or not, and whether I should try the alternate frequency. The higher audio level appears to have helped but may have had an unintended consequence of causing images to have ringing at the edges. Regardless, I enjoyed the program in real-time, and had the opportunity to enjoy it again via recordings made on other SDRs.

Due to network connectivity problems with the SDR towards the end, the audio was noticeably broken and stuttering.

During the initial part of the program on 3200kHz, Morse code was received. The first sentences were missed, with some deep fading of the signal from time to time. My apologies for errors due to my lack of Morse code proficiency - attempts to use software-based decoding were thwarted by the quality of the signal and the music in the background.

The message reads:
THE GHOST IS THE SPACE BETWEEN THE MATTER AND THE MIND.
IT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MEMORY OF YOUR LOVED ONE AND THE PHOTOGRAPH YOU TOOK OF THEM A LONG TIME
AGO WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG.
THE STOCHASTIC GHOST RESONANCE IS A PHANTOM FREQUENCY.
IT IS A MISSING FUNDAMENTAL THAT FORMS INSIDE THE COCHLEAR OF YOUR EAR OR INSIDE THE CALCULATIONS OF YOUR
BRAIN - DEPENDING ON WHOM YOU ASK.
I WILL SEND YOU A PHANTOM FREQUENCY.
IF YOU CAN CLEARLY RECEIVE AND HEAR BOTH OVERTONES THEN THE MISSING FUNDAMENTAL WILL FORM INSIDE YOUR EAR
OR INSIDE YOUR MIND IT WILL BECOME THE GHOST - YOUR PHANTOM FREQUENCY.
I WILL NOW SEND YOU TWO FREQUENCIES, ON TWO DIFFERENT FREQUENCIES.

I tuned away, noticing no signal on 2800kHz and settling on 3350kHz. This contained what sounded to be a flute performance, then an almost-programmatic wolf-howling which sounds as if to have encoded something.

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU FILTER.
SOME OF THAT NOISE MIGHT ACTUALLY BE SIGNAL.

WAS IT A BANG OR A WHISPER?
